What would you do …

(This post is Day 5 of 7 in the Your Turn Challenge)

There’s that saying, “What would you attempt if you knew you would not fail?”

Good sound bite, but I think that saying misses the point. I’d like to propose a new version:

What would you attempt if it didn’t matter whether you failed? What would you attempt if you gave yourself permission to fail?

The outcome is really not nearly as important as the attempt. Saying you would try something only if you knew you couldn’t fail is saying you will never try. Because failure is part of trying.

Try it anyway. Ask yourself instead whether you’d regret never having tried. Give yourself permission to fail. And then try.

What would you attempt if it didn’t matter whether you failed?

  1. great post. I grinned when I got to your site as I often say P as in Pterodactyl when spelling my name for someone snarky. Thanks!

  2. Ha, thanks Patrick! I’m glad I’m not alone in the P as in pterodactyl love. Sometimes I think it’s not the best blog name, but in many ways, it sums me up. 🙂 Best wishes!
