Ireland, September 8, 2005: Dingle to Kinsale

This was a long long travel day on buses. The camera mostly stayed in the bag except for this picture:

For those catching up, I’m reliving trips from 2005, 2007, and 2009. Because I’d like to be traveling right now!

Ireland, September 7, 2005: Dingle

It freaking rained horizontal all freaking day.

Room with a view

I had a fabulous B&B in Dingle, with a fabulous view. However, all day long September 7, 2005, this is what I saw. Torrential rain and wind, all day.

The Moher, the Burren, and a Castle – more memory lane

Ireland, September 4, 2005: The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Doolin

After an early morning ferry ride from Inishmore back to the mainland, I took a “big bus” day trip that took me (and 8,000 other people) around the Burren, to the Cliffs of Moher, and to Doolin. The tour made a full circle back to Galway (I think that’s where it started, if I remember right), but I used it as my mode of transportation to get my to my final destination, and got off in Doolin.

I have lots of pictures from September 4!! Note: Click on any picture to enlarge (somewhat).

Poulnabrone dolmen

Poulnabrone dolmen. I raced to the dolmen to get a picture in which it wasn’t surrounded by the 49 other bus passengers. I also have a picture from about two minutes later when the area is swarming with people. Timing is everything!

Tiniest plane I ever flew in! (more memory lane)

This day five years ago was one of my absolute favorites on my trip to Ireland. I got up in the wee hours, hopped on the tiniest plane EVER (see picture) – as it was too small even for an aisle, we had to enter our seats from the outside, like a van – and made the eight-minute flight from the mainland to Inishmore, one of the Aran Islands. I LOVED Inishmore and can’t wait to go back!

Second day in Ireland, September 2, 2005: toured around the Connemara area of Ireland. Took a big bus tour, which I don’t recommend; luckily, it was a weekday and so not nearly as crowded as it gets on the weekends (which I found out the hard way, later!)

Trips down memory lane…

Five years ago today, I was groggy and disoriented in Galway, Ireland. A year ago tomorrow, I was looking for kilted men in Edinburgh. Three years ago Sunday, I was wandering lost around Vevey, Switzerland, thinking that a city looks a lot different than a flat map. (Okay, actually that was three years and a month ago. I thought that trip was late August/early September, but as it turns out it started August 5.)

It’s become a pattern that every other year in late summer, I’m heading off on a new adventure. Which means that now, round about this time of year, I start to get to feel like I’m supposed to be packing and on a plane.
