I learned a new word the other day—a word I’ve needed but didn’t know! Mudita! Have you heard of mudita before?
“Mudita is a pure joy unadulterated by self interest, the pleasure that comes from delighting in other people’s well-being. When we can be happy of the joys other beings feel, it is called mudita; the opposite word is envy or schadenfreude.”
What does it say that we all know schadenfreude, but we don’t know mudita?
I say let’s cultivate mudita. We’ve had enough schadenfreude. Let’s now revel more in each other’s joy. To mudita!
