Some food for thought for today.
In the section I was listening to today, Brené talks about the shame a vast majority of us have around appearance and body image.
According to Brené, Americans spend more each year on beauty than we do on education.
The beauty standard in our society today is attainable, she says, by only 5% of the population.
If not us ourselves, then who benefits from these appearance expectations?
The $38 billion hair industry
The $33 billion diet industry
The $24 billion skin care industry
The $18 billion makeup industry
The $15 billion perfume industry
The $13 billion cosmetic surgery industry
Something to think about.
